PHOTOGRAPHY BY CAROL GUZY
PRODUCED AND EDITED BY JOEL BEESON

Three-time Pulitzer Prize winner photojournalist Carol Guzy took a leave of absence from The Washington Post to follow the under-reported story of the impact ethat Hurricane Katrina had on the animal population of New Orleans. Working for months on this difficult story, Guzy created a body of haunting images of loss and heroism. These multimedia photo essays tell the story of overwhelmed volunteers working to save thousands of injured and frightened animals stranded by the storm.
