Legally blind, 83-year-old Patrick Burke was evacuated to Camp Dawson, a National Guard training center in rural West Virginia, after Lake Pontchartrain flooded his home in Metairie, La. in the wake of flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina. Doctors at Camp Dawson wanted to place Burke in a nursing home in West Virginia, but he was determined to return and rebuild the home he shared with his wife of 61 years, who died in 2003.
