Lingbing Hang, a graduate student in the West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism, was born and grew up in Shanghai, China. She came to the United States to pursue a master's degree.

She graduated from the School of Journalism at Fudan University in Shanghai, and started her career as a photographer for Wenhui Daily, a major Shanghai newspaper. The newspaper granted her a leave of absence for her study at WVU.

Hang, a graduate assistant of visual journalism, is a photographer for the school's alumni magazine and covers school events. Hang was also a photographer for the documentary book “Cancer Stories: Lessons in Love, Loss, and Hope.”

In 1998, she covered the Yngtze River flood in mainland China, which washed away six million homes and killed thousands of people.
