Delmon McKinney
Delmon McKinney, 53, thought he could wait out Hurricane Katrina, but the former tow-truck driver and construction worker was, like so many others, wrong. After six days, he was rescued from a flooded New Orleans’ neighborhood and caught a plane to West Virginia. During a temporary stay at Camp Dawson, a military based in Preston County, McKinney received medical attention and was sent to the hospital for surgery. Happy with his new life, he said, “I’m relinquishing my New Orleans citizenship and becoming a Mountaineer.”
