Raymond Duvernay
Raymond Duvernay, 59, did odd jobs before Hurricane Katrina destroyed his Uptown New Orleans home. He and his wife, Dale, found shelter in a neighborhood school that had been set up by their friends, Greg Avery and Allen Smith. Raymond ended up at Camp Dawson, in Preston County, W.Va., where he helped clean the grounds of the military base. He and his wife are starting their new lives in Charleston, W.Va., where Raymond hopes to find an environmental job.
